The Village of Rye Brook Board of Trustees approved a modification to the license and fee schedule May 27 to add a $2 transportation fee for trips that already carry another fee (for example, museum or performance admissions).
Liz Rodfeld, senior center coordinator, explained the senior program runs two types of trips: those in which participants pay an admission or ticket (museum, Broadway, boat tours) and community trips where participants pay on arrival (shopping, luncheons). Rodfeld said the $2 fee would be retained in the senior account to pay tolls and transportation costs. "I would like to collect that extra $2 per trip, keep that in my senior account because I pay the toll bills from that account if everyone's amenable to that," she said.
Trustees discussed consistency across trip types and affordability concerns for some seniors. Several trustees supported a flat, consistent fee rather than varying rates by trip type; others urged caution for seniors on tight budgets. The board approved the resolution, and staff will implement the fee and monitor results for possible adjustments during future budget discussions.
The resolution directs an amendment to the village license and fee schedule specifying a $2 transportation fee when another trip fee is involved, and the mayor and administrator were authorized to execute related documents.
