Veterans group asks council to approve additions to Global War on Terror monument; staff to follow up

"There's 22 names that deserve to be on there," Demers said during the public appearance portion of the meeting, describing a multi-year effort to add the names. He told the council the project would not require city funds and that a benefactor would pay for the etching.
Councilors received the request and directed staff to work with Demers and other volunteers to verify service documentation and prepare any needed paperwork. One councilor noted that names had been added in a prior effort led by a community member and said there should be an existing policy or procedure to guide name additions; staff agreed to follow up and return any required resolution for council action.
The council did not adopt any policy changes at the meeting; members asked for cleaned-up name lists and documentary proof of service before placing the item on a future agenda.
