Chief of the Wolfeboro Police Department (name not specified) told the Wolfeboro Police Commission that the department has 42 approved policies, 18 draft policies underway, and has received body-worn cameras and plans to begin training next week.
The chief said background investigations have been prioritized and that five recruits are in the hiring queue — four with conditional offers and one at an earlier stage — and that the department hopes to reach full staffing by the end of the year. He also reported the department is under budget and that staff moved into the new building between the previous day and the meeting.
The chief described ongoing training and equipment programs, including drone training for department members and accreditation work led by Investigator Shigori; Captain Libby is taking the same accreditation course to become a certified accreditation manager. He said the three people who must agree on the body-worn camera policy are Investigator Shigori, Captain Olivia and himself, and that once they finalize the policy it will be used in training before the cameras are used in the field.
On school safety, the chief said he toured the Wolfeboro Camp School with its head of schools and staff, and urged school staff to call police immediately if they suspect a missing child, saying, “We never close,” and that “we wanna call right away” to get help sooner. He also said two school resource officers who are in schools will return to patrol after the end of the school year.
The chief noted that Officers Greco and Weed are expected to complete the police academy on Aug. 22 and join the Wolfeboro force. He thanked CCI and subcontractors for assistance with the department move and praised his executive assistant, Sherry, for coordinating the transition in the new building.
The commission accepted the minutes from the May 8 meeting and later moved to adjourn the meeting. The next meeting was announced for Thursday, July 10, at 6:00 p.m. in the Great Hall.
