A representative for Alexandria Moulding told the Westville Town Council that employees want to volunteer to refurbish facilities at Birchfield Park, and the council voted to support the project.
"They want to refinish the benches, and internal walls, the 4 dugouts at Birchfield. They want to remove and replace decking boards of the concession stand and improvements to the sideboards, refinishing concession window frames as well," Stacy Young, an Alexandria Moulding representative, said during the meeting. Young added they also planned to build a step to replace concrete blocks and that the contribution included both materials and labor.
Councilmembers made and seconded a motion to give the company the town's support for the park upgrades; the motion passed 5-0. Council members asked staff to coordinate volunteers with the town maintenance contact (referred to in the meeting as Bubba).
On a related parks item, the council said the town expects to install pickleball courts next month and that lighting will be provided. A councilmember said he inspected the nearby utility drop and photo-documented the distance to the existing basketball-court service to show how lighting would be routed; the council said the courts "are gonna be lit." The council did not adopt any ordinance or contract at the meeting related to the lighting; staff indicated they would continue coordination with utilities and contractors.
The volunteer work at Birchfield Park and the pickleball-court lighting were presented as council-supported projects; no additional funding approvals were recorded in the meeting.
