Council favors staff version of Wenatchee comprehensive plan vision statement

Steve (Community Development staff) read the proposed vision: “Wenatchee is an engaged, resilient, and inclusive city where innovation meets tradition rooted in the natural beauty of the Cascade Foothills and the Columbia River. We are a thriving hub of emerging technologies, clean energy, social and health care services, hospitality and outdoor recreation. The city provides an excellent infrastructure system with quality public services, great streets, and public spaces that meet the needs of its diverse community and visitors. Wenatchee honors its indigenous and agricultural heritage while purposefully shaping a future where all can live, work, and thrive.”
Council members gave generally positive feedback in the meeting record; staff said the vision will be vetted through the plan process and the public will have opportunities to comment. The item was treated as direction to staff rather than a formal, final adoption; staff noted the vision will be part of deliverables required for the state grant supporting the comprehensive plan update.
