Township leader praises commissioners for pushing to keep dispensary funds in local communities

He said the commissioners “went against their association” by writing a letter supporting local retention of the funds and thanked them for that action. Santos estimated the local payouts from a single dispensary could range “anywhere from $200,000 to about $1,000,000” depending on sales, and said the money could help townships and cities avoid new levies or other revenue measures.
Commissioners and other meeting participants praised Santos’s leadership and the county’s efforts to press the state to leave the funds in local hands. A commissioner thanked him for bringing the issue forward months earlier and said the county and township leaders must continue to press for resources to remain local. No new motion or vote on county policy was recorded at the meeting; speakers described an existing letter of support as the action taken to advocate for local retention.
