Trustees elect secretary and treasurer amid transition to citizen board; board discusses possible state lands recreational lease

During the trustees' meeting, the board filled two vacant officer roles left open during the board's transition and confirmed new trustees.

Chairman North announced the need to fill two vacancies and called for nominations; trustees approved John as treasurer and Stacy as secretary by voice vote. "All in favor of John being the treasurer, say aye," Chairman North said; the meeting record shows voice votes with no roll-call tallies recorded and the chair declared the elections carried.

Peter Nicholaysen asked the board to consider whether it was premature to permanently fill officer roles while additional trustees are not yet installed, noting the board is transitioning from county commissioners to a citizen board and that future trustees might prefer different officer assignments. "...it it may be premature, to have just these 2 offices, selected," Nicholaysen said. Chairman North responded that statute requires annual election in January and that the county attorney advised the board to fill the positions now.

In trustees' comments, Chairman North reported on an Office of State Lands hearing regarding sections near the end of Coach Road and said some board members recommended pursuing a recreational lease for outdoor recreation on selected sections. He said trustees discussed whether press-fund money for outdoor recreation could help supplement a special lease agreement. "That was designed for outdoor recreation," Chairman North said of the press fund, and he indicated trustees are still working through criteria and involvement for any potential lease.

Trustees approved minutes from the previous meeting by voice vote and welcomed new members. No formal ordinance or lease action was taken; the state lands item was discussed as an idea for further exploration and would require additional criteria and possible fund considerations.
