County approves paving, bridge replacement and salt rollover contracts totaling roughly $1.5 million

The Monroe County Board of Commissioners on June 12 approved several highway contracts and procurement actions recommended by county highway personnel.
Sealed bids opened May 29 produced two responsive bidders for a multi-road paving package; E & B Paving was the lowest responsible bidder and received the award for projects totaling $840,800. The bid packet included work on John Young Bridal, Lower Berta Galyon Road, Fleener Road, Shiloh Road (Coyle Road to Anderson and another segment covered by community crossings), Kings Road, Rock East Road (west of Mount Zion to Bridal Road), Elren Road (State Road 45 to the county line), and Flatwoods Road (Owen County line to near Billingsville).
A separate paving quote for Fox Lane off Strain Ridge Road was awarded to E & B Paving for $66,517 after quotes opened May 29.
The board also awarded Bridge Number 75 (Rohrer Road) to CLR Incorporated for $555,895.20, based on sealed bids opened May 28. County engineers said the project’s engineer estimate was $712,042.89; construction is anticipated in the 2026 season to avoid overlapping city detours, to secure permits and to ensure plant availability, with a probable April start.
The county approved a salt rollover pricing extension with Cargill Incorporated under the existing contract through 2026 at $106.73 per ton delivered or $105 per ton for pickup.
Commissioners characterized the projects as important infrastructure work that improves road safety and drivability. Commissioner Madera said, "Paving makes all the difference," as the board moved these awards by voice vote. The awards proceed with standard permitting and scheduling steps before construction.
