The Show Low School District board approved a new job description and stipend to create a lead health technician who will centralize training, compliance and oversight of the district’s health techs.
Superintendent Doctor Farnsworth explained the district’s special education director has been carrying a substantial compliance and training burden and the new lead health-tech role is intended to relieve that work by providing an in-district point person for shot records, best-practice guidance and staff mentoring.
Farnsworth said the district expects to post the position internally and prefers a current employee who is progressing toward an RN; the initial plan is to hire from current health-tech staff rather than recruit externally. The board also approved a stipend for the role and noted the lead health tech will work an additional five hours weekly (moving from 35 to 40 hours), with hourly pay maintained at current levels plus the stipend.
Board members asked whether the district planned to hire a registered nurse; Farnsworth said an RN could be a future option but that RNs are costly and the district first wants to promote from within. A motion to approve the job description and stipend was made and passed (motion passed).
