The Show Low School District board unanimously adopted a new vision, mission and set of guiding principles after a five‑month process that included community members and district staff.
Susan Midkiff, a member of the visions committee, told the board the group represented “people who are just so passionate” about the district and the city of Show Low and thanked Superintendent Doctor Farnsworth and Charlotte Cosgray for leadership and facilitation of the process.
Committee members who addressed the board described a series of monthly meetings over five months in which community representatives, parents, alumni and staff reviewed and updated the district’s statements. Joel Weeks, Steve Hackethorn and other committee members praised the process as inclusive and strategic; several said they expected the final statements to guide the district’s priorities and public messaging for years.
Superintendent Doctor Farnsworth said the statements give the board and administration “marching orders” and indicated staff will present implementation steps and campus-level briefings in July. Board members discussed next steps including marketing the adopted language and producing posters and materials to share across campuses.
A motion to adopt the vision, mission and guiding principles was made and the board approved it (motion passed). The committee members read portions of the new text aloud during the meeting and the board will include the adopted language in district communications and next-year planning.
