Board adopts K–12 science curriculum; middle school to receive new materials

The Molalla River School District 35 board formally adopted the K–12 science curriculum at its June 12 business meeting, approving a committee recommendation to replace middle school materials and continue previously adopted elementary and high school curricula.
Miss Jackson, district staff (curriculum), told directors the adoption followed a review process that included teacher pilots, community comment boxes at the library, digital access links posted on school and district websites, and a non‑manned public display. Jackson said the new middle school adoption aligns with state standards, includes student workbooks and engagement supports and was budgeted for within the district's curriculum funds.
Under the approved plan, elementary grades will continue with Mystery Science for the next six years and high school will continue with McGraw Hill materials supplemented by additional topics such as earth science, physical science and anatomy and physiology. Middle school teachers piloted the new curriculum and reported it aligned with standards and offered teacher and student resources.
A board member moved to approve the adoption; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. Jackson and committee members said community comments received were positive and are included in the board packet.
