The EPIC ONE ON ONE CHARTER SCHOOL board appointed Justin Hunt as interim superintendent in a unanimous vote and approved several administrative appointments intended to maintain district operations.
The board voted to appoint Justin Hunt as interim superintendent; the motion passed with recorded affirmative votes from Miss Berry, Miss Casper, Mister Hammonds, Miss Myers and Mister Vela. The board also appointed Daniel Haines as district treasurer and Dore Williams as assistant treasurer, approved Emily Trumbly to continue as encumbrance clerk, and reappointed Lynn Stickney as board clerk. All motions were seconded and carried unanimously.
Board members discussed a recent state law change that expands eligibility for the state pathways program up to age 30. The board approved a motion to allow the superintendent or a superintendent designee to review and approve pathways applications so students can be activated sooner and EPIC can receive state aid more promptly. A board member said that previously the board approved the list and students could be delayed a month or more before being enrolled and the school received state funds; delegating review to the superintendent’s designee is intended to reduce that delay.
The finance and audit committee was directed to interview several candidates and provide a recommendation on hiring an external accountant by the next regularly scheduled board meeting. The motion to have the committee deliver those recommendations by the next meeting passed unanimously.
Separately, the board tabled the entire consent agenda (items a through CG) until a special meeting to allow more time to review the materials.
Why this matters: These governance actions appoint interim leadership and fill key financial roles while changing the pathways approval process to speed state aid, a procedural shift spurred by a recent state law expanding adult eligibility for pathways.
