Holliston School Committee elects chair, other officers and assigns committee roles

The Holliston Public Schools School Committee voted unanimously Thursday to elect new officers and approve committee assignments as part of its annual reorganization.
The committee selected Sarah Fess as chair in a roll-call vote that passed 7–0. Committee members then closed nominations and approved the vice chair and secretary positions and a slate of subcommittee and liaison assignments by voice vote or unanimous consent.
The reorganization included appointments to standing and advisory groups. Members named Dan and Don to the budget subcommittee, Hillary and others to policy support, and a slate of liaisons for district programs and town committees, including PTO, Coalition Against Hate and Bias, Holliston Youth & Family Services and others. Motions to approve those assignments carried without recorded opposition.
Committee members discussed practice around voting methods — some officer votes were taken by roll call while others were handled by voice — and confirmed that the chair would assume control after the chair vote. The session then moved into the evening agenda for committee business.
Less-critical housekeeping items that followed included approval of the consent agenda, which contained the minutes of the May 29 meeting and a set of donations and grants, and routine committee scheduling for the coming year.
The committee adjourned the public portion of the meeting and voted to enter executive session to discuss strategy related to collective bargaining or litigation; the roll-call for that motion was also unanimous.
