Policy Committee Chair Ferris reported a lengthy discussion about drafting a policy to address protections for girls in intimate spaces and language his notes described as related to “restoring biological truth,” with references to an executive order. Ferris said the committee debated procedural and substantive elements and planned to have counsel prepare a draft.
Ferris said he would ask district counsel Bob Butler to prepare a read-and-rewrite of the proposed language and requested a draft be available at least a week before a planned July committee meeting so members could digest the material. The committee also took the temperature of board members about a bell-to-bell cell‑phone policy and, while a majority initially opposed immediate action, Ferris said a few members asked to readdress the matter; the committee therefore proposed scheduling a policy meeting on July 7 (the day before the regular July 9 board meeting) to allow ample time for review.
Ferris said the committee intends to separate the core policy language (page one of the draft) from procedural mechanics (page two) so members can consider both the policy’s substance and the implementation steps. He asked that a draft be circulated in advance of the July meeting.
