The Clarke County School Board moved into closed session June 10 to discuss personnel matters and later reconvened to approve personnel actions and authorize the superintendent to fill vacancies through June 23, 2025.
A board member moved “to convene a closed session to discuss personnel matters including appointments and resignations pursuant to Code of Virginia section 2.2‑3711(a)(1). An estimated time for closed session was 15 minutes and action was expected,” the mover said. The board then voted to close the meeting and later reconvened.
After returning to open session, board members certified the closed-session discussion as lawful under Code of Virginia section 2.2‑3712(d). The certification roll call recorded “Aye” votes from Mister Brumback, Mister Kennedy, Miss Carver, Missus Smith and Mister Wilson.
Following certification, a motion was made and passed to approve the personnel agenda as presented. The board then voted to allow the superintendent to fill open positions until the June 23, 2025 meeting; the meeting record indicates the motions carried with all members voting in favor. The board adjourned after completing these actions.
