SEAC and board recognize staff for inclusive practices supporting students with disabilities

The Clark County School Board on May 19 joined the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) in recognizing school employees nominated for inclusive practices that support students with disabilities.
Jayoni Wood, SEAC chair, said the committee solicited nominations from parents, teachers and staff and that awardees received a certificate and letter describing the specifics of their nomination. Wood, speaking as a parent of three children who received special education services, praised staff who create inclusive environments and said such efforts help students with and without disabilities develop understanding.
A roster of nominated employees was read aloud and included teachers, specialists and instructional assistants from multiple schools: Angie Lavely; Avery Jackson; Sherilyn Shiley; Christina Collings; Gina Basham; Jacqueline Kraus; Jennifer Hornbaker; Jennifer Mooney; Jessica Taverner; John Glimp; Mandy Ballas; Michelle Cox; Eric Morgan; Madison Shannon; Pam Murphy; Paula Reid; Patrick White; Rachel Novick; Rachel Thompson; Rebecca McCarthy; Sabrina Williams; Samantha Pigott; and Wendy Odom.
Wood and board members emphasized the value of inclusive classrooms and noted nominations came from colleagues, parents and school staff. The board asked nominated employees to state the school where they work and their roles so the system could document the recognition.
The board applauded the nominees and thanked SEAC for organizing the recognition as part of ongoing efforts to highlight staff contributions to inclusive education.
