Clark County High students honored for Widget Cup project and donation to local nursery

The Clark County School Board recognized the Clark County High School Widget Cup team on May 19 and heard from students and their coach about the group’s winning entry and community donation.
Coach Jim Draucker introduced members of the 2025 Widget Cup team and said Clark County High School won the competition this year. Draucker said only three of the eight team members could attend the board meeting because of schedule conflicts.
Students described the project and its community impact. A student told the board the team built an outdoor cart for toys for the Fremont Street Nursery using metal and synthetic wood and that the competition included an unexpected “twist” requiring a visible identifier on the project. The team later donated the cart to the nursery; during the drop‑off, staff at the nursery asked children to fill the carts with balls, and Draucker said the children chose the Clark County cart because it was identifiable and appealing.
Draucker said all participating students are or have been enrolled in career and technical education classes, which is a prerequisite to enter the competition. Board members praised the students’ work and the program’s role in giving students hands‑on experience and community connection.
The board acknowledged the students’ contribution to the Fremont Street Nursery and thanked Draucker and the CTE program for supporting student participation in regional competitions.
