English Construction reports progress on elementary school expansion; electrical switchover completed

Alex Amos, vice president of English Construction Company, updated the Prince Edward County School Board on the elementary school expansion and renovation, reporting steady progress and several completed milestones.
Amos said the new electrical service switchover took place this week after more than eight months of planning with staff and outside entities, including Dominion Energy, and that the conversion has gone well. He reported active work on the cafeteria, roof replacements on multiple buildings, replacement of a flat roof at Building G, and exterior utility work including a new water and fire line from Zion Hill Road.
Amos told the board that the project currently supports more than 100 trade personnel on site and that the contractor expects that level of activity to continue through the summer. He said the cafeteria began construction earlier in the week and the contractor has 39 days remaining on that schedule. Board members thanked the contractor for coordination and sensitivity to students and staff during the work.
The contractor and staff indicated they expect the schedule to continue through summer and to complete key elements before school resumes.
