Prince Edward schools award 2025–26 fuel contract to Foster Fuel after competitive bid

The Prince Edward County School Board voted Tuesday to award the district’s 2025–26 fuel contract to Foster Fuel after evaluating two bids.
Central-office staff told the board they received bids from Foster Fuel and James River. In addition to price, staff said service reliability was a decisive factor: past delivery delays to schools were cited as an example of unacceptable service that would disqualify a bidder even if its price were competitive.
Miss Jones presented the bid results and confirmed the Foster Fuel bid showed decreases from the previous year in heating oil, diesel and gasoline pricing; the board approved the contract by motion. Board members asked for clarity about service standards and were told the contract includes expectations for timely deliveries and a clause allowing the district to terminate or refuse a vendor that fails to meet service obligations.
The board moved to approve the bid and award the district fuel contract to Foster Fuel for gas, diesel, heating oil and propane for the 2025–26 school year.
