Public and trustees debate flag-posting policy; trustees urge civility after heated meeting

The public comment was followed by a lengthy trustees' exchange about how to proceed with the subject and whether decorum was maintained during the meeting. Several trustees said personal attacks and bullying during the discussion crossed a line and asked the board president to enforce standards of decorum.
One trustee said the board "doesn't all think alike on this front" and called the level of personal aggressiveness "way out of line," urging apologies and a different approach going forward. Another trustee urged that the board present options at a future meeting that would allow constructive debate rather than reopening the topic from scratch.
No ordinance or formal policy was adopted at the meeting. Trustees agreed to continue discussion at future meetings and to revisit the approach with more structured options intended to reduce conflict. Several trustees asked the president to monitor decorum and called for more respectful exchanges.
The public hearing and subsequent trustee remarks did not produce a vote or definitive policy change; the board directed staff to return with options and indicated they would work to improve the tone of the discussion at future meetings.
