District staff presented the Lynnbrook districtwide school safety plan at a required public hearing on June 11 and opened the 30‑day public comment period.
Facilities and safety director Rob Press told the board the draft plan is comprehensive and already incorporates legislative updates that take effect for 2025–26, including enhanced notice to families about trauma‑informed drills and terminology changes (for example, the term lockout has been updated to “secure lockout”). He said the districtwide plan works in tandem with confidential building‑level response plans that the board will adopt in August but that are not released publicly because they contain sensitive security details.
Press summarized the review timeline: the districtwide safety committee approved the plan in May, the board held the required public hearing on June 11, the board will establish the 30‑day public comment period at the July reorganization meeting, and final adoption — along with building‑level plans — is scheduled for the August meeting. Press asked the public to review the document, which the district has posted with the meeting agenda, and submit comments during the 30‑day window.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the plan’s content and thanked staff for the committee’s work. The district noted that building‑level plans are reviewed by a broad committee that includes administrators, principals, union representation, PTA members and students, and that the district will submit the final plans to the state by October, as required.
