The Christian County Commission approved a one-year renewal of the detention center food-service contract with Trinity Services Group, covering June 15, 2025, through June 14, 2026, and accepted a 3.8% price increase requested by the vendor.
Miss Kim, the county purchasing manager, said the original RFP (RFP 2024-2, Sheriff’s Office detention center food service) was issued last year and attracted four proposals; Trinity Services Group received the award and requested the 3.8% increase under the contract’s price-index provision. "They requested a pricing increase of 3.8%, which is well within their line of their original proposal," Miss Kim said.
Captain Colton Craig appeared on behalf of the sheriff and did not report service problems with Trinity, Miss Kim said. Commissioners voted by voice to approve the contract renewal.
Why it matters: County commissioners noted that feeding people in detention is a recurring, budgeted operational expense and that the public often asks about high county costs. The commission discussed transparency and the county’s online portal for spending records.
Commissioners and staff provided cost context in the meeting. When asked about annual cost, Miss Kim did not have the contract dollar amount at hand; one commissioner estimated the current cost at about $7,000 per week. Miss Kim and a commissioner said the detention population averages about 130 inmates, which drives weekly food costs.
The motion approved renewal of RFP 2024-2 with Trinity Services Group for one year, with the 3.8% increase in accordance with the contract terms. Commissioners did not record a roll-call vote; the motion passed on a voice vote.
Ending: The renewal takes effect June 15, 2025; the commission asked staff to continue posting contract documents and spending records to the county portal for transparency.
