Local, county and state officials honor Superintendent John Simpson ahead of retirement

Multiple municipal and regional officials and former board members used the board’s June 11 meeting to recognize Superintendent John Simpson, who announced his retirement effective June 30.
Mayor Laura Arnold read a city proclamation that said Simpson “has served Webster Grove School District for 20 years” and proclaimed June 30, 2025, “Doctor John Simpson Day” in the City of Webster Groves.
Saint Louis County Executive Sam Page presented a county proclamation recognizing Simpson’s leadership and said he would also declare June 30 as John Simpson Day in Saint Louis County. State Representative Joe Dahl said he had a resolution from the Missouri House recognizing Simpson’s service and called June 30 “Doctor Simpson day in the state of Missouri.” Rock Hill Mayor Ed Johnson also offered remarks and a proclamation from his municipality.
Former board members Steve Lohr, Jean Dugan and Alex Khan and current board members offered personal tributes that praised Simpson’s leadership, equity focus and commitment to student voice and community partnerships. The board’s celebration period was used for the tributes and proclamations; no policy or personnel actions were taken as part of that recognition.
Board members thanked the departing superintendent for his service and noted his last official day as June 30. Several speakers said they expected to continue to see Simpson in the community after his retirement.
