The council approved a broad set of appointments to city boards and commissions at the June council meeting. Motions covered appointments and reappointments across multiple bodies including the Planning Commission, Board of Ordinance Appeals (several panels), Board of Review, General Employees Retirement System Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Corridor Improvement Authority, Economic Development Corporation Brownfield Authority, Arts Commission, Beautification Commission, Board of Code Appeals, Citizens Advisory Committee (CDBG), Community Alliance, Election Commission, Historical Commission, Library Board of Trustees, Solid Waste Management Commission, Sustainability Commission, and the Youth Advisory Board.
Notable items included nomination of Fiorella Lesai (architectural background) to the Planning Commission for consideration at the June 17 council meeting; reappointment of several long‑serving arts, planning and advisory members; and a mayoral appointment of Riley Maher to the elected officials compensation commission to a term ending in 2032. Council members praised volunteers and noted strong applicant interest for certain commissions (for example, 17 applicants for the Arts Commission). Several council members also asked staff to consider ways to involve extra applicants who could not be seated.
All motions were moved, supported, and approved by voice vote. Where required, appointments are subject to appointees meeting qualifications set by city charter and taking the oath of office within two weeks.
