Livingston Parish School Board renews multiple school-safety agreements for 2025–26

The Livingston Parish School Board voted to renew several cooperative endeavor agreements to maintain law-enforcement and safety services at parish schools for the 2025–26 school year.
The agreements approved allocate funding and define responsibilities for school resource officers, city police officers assigned to schools, the sheriff’s crossing guard program and a security-officer detail. The agreements run from July 2025 through June 2026.
Board members were presented a cooperative endeavor agreement that would fund one-half of the annual cost for 11 sheriff’s deputies assigned as school resource officers (SROs). The board was told the parish’s share this year will be $550,000, invoiced quarterly; the sheriff’s office will provide fully commissioned, POST-certified deputies to be assigned by the sheriff.
Board members also approved a separate one-year agreement with the Dental Springs Police Department to provide two officers assigned to schools in that city. The cost reported for the board’s share was $81,733.50, calculated as one-half of the annual cost for the two officers and to be invoiced quarterly. Board member Brad Sharp moved the motion to approve the Dental Springs agreement and Bob Seals seconded; the motion carried.
The board approved renewal of a crossing-guard program cooperative endeavor with the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office will provide training and ongoing support; the sheriff will cover 100% of crossing-guard program costs to the board, and the stated per-guard cost is $650 per month. That agreement was presented as a one-year renewal with no changes from the prior year.
A separate security-officer detail agreement with the sheriff’s office was renewed for July 2025–June 2026. Board materials showed the parish logged 3,595 security assignments and over 30,000 hours across schools the prior year. The program was reported to use 22 slots and to rotate officers to emphasize more remote schools. The stated cost in the presentation was $42 per hour; the sheriff’s office contributes 60% of the cost and the school board 40%, invoiced monthly.
Several board members and staff praised the programs during discussion. Dr. Matt Morris said the officers’ presence and patrols “has actually helped us in multiple scenarios where it prevented issues from occurring. So these are a very important piece for our safety of our kids.”
All of the school-security agreements approved at the meeting were presented as renewals with no substantive changes from the previous year and were authorized to proceed for the 2025–26 year. The agreements will be implemented according to the payment terms presented to the board and administered by the sheriff’s office and the respective police department.
