Gadsden announces free ‘dumpster day’ in June; exclusions and help for seniors noted

Ford named East Gadsden Community Center, West Megan Sports Complex and the parking lot across from the amphitheater as logistical sites for the drop-off and said the program excludes liquids, household garbage, tires and batteries. “The time will be from 7AM to noon. So the items that we don't take that day will be the liquids, the household garbage, tires, and batteries,” he said.
The mayor said the dumpster-day approach began when the city stopped picking up certain items at curbside and has worked well. He encouraged seniors and disabled veterans who need help transporting items to contact Public Works; the mayor said the city has measures in motion to help those residents participate.
Ford did not provide a specific calendar date beyond saying the event is in June, nor did he provide information about acceptable item sizes, disposal contractors or funding for the dumpsters.
