Riverside Parks & Recreation wins District 96 contract for before‑ and after‑school care; board approves intergovernmental agreement

The Village of Riverside Parks and Recreation Department was selected by Riverside School District 96 to continue operating the district’s before‑ and after‑school child care program, and the Board approved an intergovernmental agreement to formalize the arrangement.
Director Ron Malchioti told trustees the department has provided the program since 2017 and was chosen through a district RFP process. Malchioti said the parks department offers roughly $10,000 in scholarships annually and coordinates with the West Suburban Special Recreation Association to ensure accessibility for children with special needs.
As part of the proposal accepted by the district, Malchioti said the program will add enrichment options including yoga, cooking, writing, engineering and performance art at no additional cost to families and will offer flexible registration options. He also told the board the department committed to a three‑year price freeze for all registration options.
Trustees approved the intergovernmental agreement by roll call. Malchioti and staff said they will continue to collect feedback from parents and refine programming as the school year approaches.
