City Council on Monday approved a $220,000 upgrade to the council chamber’s audio and video systems, funded from restricted public education and government (PEG) access dollars.
Miss Cindy (city presenter) told council the project would add five HD cameras, a modernized audio system and updated monitors to improve broadcasts and in‑chamber visibility. “We do plan to add 5 new HD cameras to the chamber room. Currently, we only have 2, and they are stationary,” the presenter said, noting the vendor NELCO has performed similar work for legislative and university chambers.
City staff said the PEG fund balance is $391,000; after the $220,000 contract the fund would retain about $171,000 to support a planned studio build and other government‑access projects. The council approved the purchase and contract award unanimously.
Council members said the upgrade will improve livestream quality and public access to meetings.
