Board approves two buses, selects designers for new Riverside and McKinley bus garages

Board member White moved to approve buying two 2027 Thomas SAF-T-LINER C2 77-passenger buses from Matheny Motor Truck Company for $291,024 each under West Virginia state contract SUBS25B; the motion carried 4 to 0. Superintendent Dr. Tom Williams said the purchase is charged to the district's bus replacement fund and that the funds derive from rebates tied to electric buses. "These funds are actually from REEP rebates we got for the electric buses," a speaker explained; the transcript states the rebates enabled the purchase.
District transportation staff said the buses typically take about 52 weeks to deliver. Transportation Director Mister Redmond told the board the planned bus-tracking app will be ready when school starts and routes are being built in the new system.
On facilities, the board voted 4 to 0 to enter contracts with Chapman Technical Group as the highest-scoring vendor under EO1Number25-120 to design a new bus garage at Riverside High School and under EO1Number25-121 to design a combined garage for McKinley Middle School and George C. Wymer Elementary. Board discussion said the Eastbank bus garage has been condemned and the Riverside garage is expected to be located on property between the school’s baseball and football fields.
Each motion for the garage designs was described as a design contract only; the district said it expects to expedite design and go to bid possibly in the fall. No construction contracts were awarded at the meeting.
