The Committee reviewed and approved updated Frequently Asked Questions for the Board’s Ask an Inspector program on June 11, 2025; the updates add several new questions and clarification for licensees.
Staff presented proposed edits to 13 existing FAQs and four new entries (numbered 14–17 in the staff packet). New items clarify remote verification of chart orders, whether a QR code may substitute for a paper medication guide, staffing requirements in refill‑chain community pharmacies, and whether original paper prescriptions must be retained or may be scanned and stored electronically.
Nicole Thiebaud (committee member) said the document was helpful and suggested adding a clear disclaimer that using Ask an Inspector is not a trigger for enforcement action to reduce licensee reluctance to use the service. She also suggested adding specific examples where helpful. A public commenter and members urged staff to add a citation to CCR 17.12 to clarify when electronic records satisfy a pharmacist’s signature or verification requirement.
Members discussed name‑badge language. Some members and commenters sought examples that accommodate preferred names or formats that protect employee safety while allowing the public to identify who they spoke with. Board counsel advised that the FAQ restates the statute and that more precise direction about alternative or preferred names would require regulatory or statutory change; counsel recommended additional staff and legal review before adding binding examples.
The Committee voted to approve the updated FAQs consistent with the committee discussion and directed staff to refine answers to specific questions (notably FAQ 1 and FAQ 6) in consultation with counsel before the full board meeting.
