Clark County Commission on Aging outlines Aging Readiness Plan, emergency preparedness focus

Ken Lund, a commission member with decades of experience in senior living, said the ARP contains 18 goals and 67 strategies across chapters on healthy communities, housing, mobility, civic involvement and emergency preparedness. He said the commission's 2024 focus included private and neighborhood preparedness, communication plans tailored to older adults, and outreach with CRESA (Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency) to post senior‑focused emergency resources on CRESA's site.
Lund told the council that county emergency staff stressed the limited on‑duty emergency personnel available in a major event and urged individuals and neighborhoods to plan to be self‑sufficient for an indeterminate amount of time. He said the commission is encouraging neighborhood and HOA coordination with CRESA and pointing residents to materials at cresa.911.org by searching for 'seniors.'
Rogers also announced the 2024 Silver Citizens award co‑winners, Bev Jones and Larry Smith, recognizing contributions by older adults to community health and volunteerism. The commission invited councilmembers and residents to attend monthly Commission on Aging meetings and public events on topics such as civic engagement for older adults.
No formal council action was required; the presentation served as an informational update and an invitation to local engagement.
