Buellton proclaims June 2025 Pride Month; local groups and Planned Parenthood speak at ceremony

The Buellton City Council issued a proclamation recognizing June 2025 as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month during its June 12 meeting and invited representatives of local organizations to accept the proclamation and speak.
Abigail Marais, identified as a founding board member of San Ynez Valley Pride, and board member Kiara thanked the council for the proclamation and described local Pride activities. Marais said she grew up in Buellton and described the avenue banners as meaningful visibility for local LGBTQIA+ residents. The speakers noted the June 12 anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting and the upcoming Solvang Pride event on June 14, urging the community to “lead with love.”
Jules Bianco, community organizer with Planned Parenthood California Central Coast, said Planned Parenthood “celebrates Pride Month this June by reaffirming our commitment to providing care for LGBTQ+ communities” and noted the organization’s role providing gender‑affirming care on the Central Coast. Local resident Carla Mead said the banners and proclamation make LGBTQ+ community members and youth feel seen and welcome.
