Council approves $20,000 additional for Boone County fire training tower fabrication

Boone County emergency-management officials asked the council to approve an additional $20,000 to the county account that pays for the fire training tower fabrication at the county jail complex. The requestors said the funding would support hazard-materials training and that the Local Emergency Planning Committee and state approvals were complete for the proposed use.
The presenter told the council the tower is used by county fire departments and police and is recognized as a state training facility; the tower site was described in discussion as at the jail location. After opening and closing a public hearing with no speakers, a council member moved to approve the additional $20,000 to the no equipment line (066) for Boone County fire training. The motion passed on a voice vote.
County staff said the expenditure meets state requirements and that the county advisory board had approved moving forward at its previous meeting. The appropriation authorizes the county to spend the additional funds on fabrication and related equipment for the training tower.
