The Sedalia City Council on June 2 approved the city's 2025 annual Main Street program agreement with Missouri Main Street Connection and heard the Sedalia Main Streets annual budget report.
Lucas Richardson, vice chair of Sedalia Main Streets, presented the organization's budget for the coming year. Richardson said planned expenditures total $158,102 and outlined categories including ground maintenance ($1,500), a new façade program, pavilion restroom work anticipated in 2026, alley activation signs and benches, murals and special events such as Thanksgiving fireworks, a Scott Joplin event, a criterium bicycle race, First Thursdays and quarterly business mixers. Richardson told the council the organization's current balance is $195,903 and that anticipated current revenue and expenditures for the next year are $106,610. He also reported tax revenue of $42,170 for 2025 and an anticipated $42,049 for 2026; other expected revenue sources include grants, fees and interest.
Staff recommended renewing the city's participation in the Missouri Main Street Connection program, saying the partnership offers expert guidance, training and statewide resources to support downtown revitalization. The council approved Bill 2025-100, the ordinance authorizing the 2025 Main Street program agreement, by roll call (six yes, one absent).
Supporters said the program helps strengthen local businesses, attract investment and preserve the downtown's historic character. The meeting record does not list conditions or additional funding commitments beyond the contract approval.
