PROS board considers park site visits, operations updates and expanded programming as summer engagement ramps up

PROS advisory board members used the June 11 meeting to raise operational updates and propose more site visits and field-focused meeting formats during the summer, coupled with updates on recreation programming, field maintenance and trail planning.
The discussion centered on making meetings more public-facing during the warm season: board members proposed doing 30–40 minute site visits to parks after the formal meeting ends and to use those visits to inform master-plan outreach and assess smaller projects such as Knowles Linear Park improvements and potential community garden sites.
Staff said site visits are feasible if posted in the meeting packet and publicly noticed; they offered to research procedural requirements and to experiment with staggered formats (short business session followed by an on-site tour). The board suggested concentrating administrative work in winter months and using spring–fall for public-facing park tours and pop-ups.
Operational updates offered by staff included maintenance and programming items: the splash pad has high use this season; parks and fields have been prepared for nightly youth sports; the automated field‑line robot has been repaired and is producing consistent striping; and turf restoration efforts on open space and soft trails are underway. Staff said park maps and new printed materials are being prepared and pictures were scheduled for the designer the following Monday.
On programming, staff described outreach with Fort Collins and other providers about possible contracted adaptive programming (swimming/therapy) and noted a small town budget line that can subsidize inclusive programs; staff encouraged the PROS board to help publicize those offerings once details are finalized. Regarding disc golf and Knowles Linear Park, staff said design work remains in progress with anticipated late-summer or early-fall timing for installation and that baskets at one site were temporarily removed after a security incident.
The board and staff agreed to include planned site visits (Knowles Linear Park, Viewpoint and Centennial/Library Park) on future agendas and to coordinate timing so the public can participate; no formal votes were taken during the meeting.
