Senate urges HHS and CMS to reconsider policies that could cut Medicaid hospital funding

The Louisiana Senate adopted a resolution on the floor urging the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to reconsider any policies that could reduce Medicaid funding for hospitals in Louisiana, Senator Kathy said.
The resolution memorializes Congress and asks federal agencies to approve dedicated payment arrangements currently pending before CMS. "This resolution simply urges Federal government to approve dedicated payments arrangements currently pending before CMS," Senator Kathy said during the brief floor presentation.
Senator Kathy moved adoption of the resolution and, after no questions were raised on the floor, the body adopted the resolution. Senator Kathy opened the floor to co-authors and the clerk recorded multiple co-authors for the measure before adoption.
Why it matters: hospitals’ Medicaid payments affect hospital revenue and the state’s health-care capacity, particularly for hospitals serving large Medicaid populations. The resolution requests federal reconsideration; it does not change state statute or appropriate funds.
