Red Bluff parks staff report pool opening, pump repairs and splash pad bid review

Parks and public-works staff told the Parks and Recreation Commission that the city pool will open on the 14th and that maintenance and capital work are underway across city parks, including pump repairs, a splash-pad bid package and replacement of playground swings.
Parks Supervisor Karen (staff) said the pool will open “the fourteenth” and that the parks department has launched new registration software; staff corrected an initial signup count from 65 to 75 people registered for swim lessons. Karen also thanked donors and partners; she said the Connor Flaherty Foundation funded two new shade awnings at the pool that were installed this year.
Larkin, identified in the meeting as the assistant pool manager, was thanked by staff and commissioners for operations work at the pool. Larkin and Karen told the commission the pool pump that circulates water experienced seized bearings and an impeller worn from decades of use; Public Works staff Scott said the replacement part was expected to be installed the next day and that the pool inspection would be scheduled after the pump work is complete.
Scott, who delivered the public-works update, listed recent repairs and pending items at River Park: irrigation-main breaks that have been repaired, removal of vandalized fixtures, and a boat-ramp dock that cannot yet be relaunched because the concrete anchor holding the cable broke. Scott said his office had a preliminary anchoring design that will require fabrication by a local shop and that the dock installation should be completed the same day the new anchor is in place.
On playground equipment, Scott said replacement swings have arrived but required different mounting clips; staff reordered hardware and expect remaining swings to be installed shortly. Scott also said staff welded and straightened several sections of decorative fencing around the kiddie pool area and removed temporary chains and hazards.
Staff said the splash-pad bid set has been completed and is under staff review pending one remaining structural element from the project designer; when that element is received staff expect to advertise for bids. The commission was also told that a farmers market now runs on Wednesday nights from 5 to 8 p.m. across from City Hall.
Commissioners offered thanks to staff for the work preparing parks and facilities for the summer season; no formal commission action was taken on these maintenance and capital items during the meeting.
