The Gridley City Council on June 2 authorized the city administrator to execute a task order with Unico Engineering for construction inspection, materials testing and construction management related to Phase 1 of the Gridley Sports Complex project.
City staff said the task order is for $99,614.03 with a budget not to exceed $109,600 to allow a 10 percent contingency for construction inspection, materials testing and construction management. Staff noted the work is billed on a time‑and‑materials basis and that the contingency would be added by signed amendment to the task order as needed.
The council’s action follows notification that the city has been awarded a $3,000,000 grant covering design and construction of the sports complex; staff said anticipated reimbursements tied to that grant are incorporated in the special revenue projections in the draft budget.
City Administrator Paul presented the item and summarized the staff report, saying in part: “This is basically before you today for just approval for the inspection services as we move forward on the Gridley Sports Complex Phase 1.”
Vote: The motion passed unanimously. Recorded votes were: Council Member Sanchez — yes; Council Member Roberts — yes; Vice Mayor Johnson — yes; Council Member Calderon — yes; Mayor Farr — yes.
What happens next: Staff said construction is expected to begin this fall, and fields will not be available for public use until the following year because the project will require time for turf and site maturation and final inspections.
