Manor’s City Council on June 4 directed staff to open applications for the Charter Review Commission, set an application deadline and designated a small screening committee to narrow candidates if necessary.
Under the city charter, a seven‑member commission must be appointed every five years to review the charter and make recommendations. At the meeting council members agreed to open recruitment and set a June 30 application deadline. Council directed that if more than 10 qualified applications are received, a screening panel composed of Councilmember Moreno, Councilmember Hill and Mayor Harvey will narrow the list to 10 applicants for interview.
Council indicated interviews and final appointments will take place in July; staff said the commission’s term will be six months and that the commission will conduct hearings and submit recommended charter amendments to council for consideration.
Staff will publish the vacancy on city channels, accept applications, verify voter and residency qualifications and forward qualified applicants to the screening panel if the number exceeds the 10‑applicant interview threshold. Council also discussed typical meeting frequency for the commission, with guidance to limit meetings during the six‑month term and to return to council if the commission needs additional time.
