City finance staff presented the unaudited monthly financial report for the period ending April 2025 at the May 27 Bastrop City Council meeting, saying overall revenue exceeded projections while expenses ran below forecast.
“Revenue overall has exceeded projection by 11%,” the finance presenter said, noting the city’s sales tax, electric revenue and other funds were included on an updated slide that breaks out sales tax allocations among the general fund, the Economic Development Corporation and street maintenance. The presenter said expenses were running roughly 24% below forecast and staff planned to add a projection comparison to future reports.
Key figures presented to council included property tax revenue at about 4.2% over projection (approximately $230,000), water and wastewater revenue about 6.7% above projection (roughly $340,000), and electric revenue running about 2.2% below projection. Development services reported a strong month, with revenue about 37% above forecast, in part driven by a large Bastrop ISD permit for classroom and gym renovations and activity in Burleson Crossing, staff said.
The finance presenter also highlighted that HUD revenue exceeded projection by 17.8% while HUD‑related expenditures were at about 91% of forecast, and street maintenance revenue ran about 13% above forecast. Staff said they would include the new sales‑tax breakout slide in future packets and invited council feedback on the presentation format.
