The draft would allow transportation only if an existing bus route passes directly by a requested address or if the route can “reasonably be accommodated,” and it makes bus capacity and driver availability explicit factors in approval.
Administrators said exceptions could be granted by the superintendent or designee and that the proposed parent/guardian form would be used at registration or on request so staff can evaluate individual cases. Several trustees expressed concern that the SOP’s language — for example a provision that “transportation will not be modified or extended to accommodate students outside the district” — could be interpreted as an absolute prohibition rather than a guideline.
After discussion, the board voted to table the SOP and form so staff can revise the language and return with updates at a later meeting. No final policy or rule was adopted.
