MSD board hears South campus construction progress; contractor says weather caused modest delay

In a narrated progress video, Dylan, the district’s project manager, described scope and sequencing on site and said crews “resequenced some things and got through [work] pulled in a couple different areas with steel directions to where we're gonna be able to catch up.” The contractor noted load‑bearing masonry on Unit G is behind because of inclement weather and estimated about eight lost work days on that package. The contractor reported that roughly 20% of the contingency allowance has been spent to date.
Board members approved a motion to name Wygan Construction as construction manager and Bartko (listed in the packet as the architect) for the South projects; the motion passed on a voice vote. The construction team told the board the schedule remains “spot on” for much of the work despite the Unit G delay, and that crews had recently placed multiple concrete loads during a single day to advance slabs.
The team also said abatement and demolition work at the Metro site will start as that building is vacated, and that masonry, joist and decking work remain priorities to put the building envelope in place. The contractor set a weather‑tight target in mid‑September so interior finishes can begin.
Negotiations, change orders or specific cost increases tied to the weather delays were not detailed during the update; the contractor said overtime and Saturday work were being used to make up schedule on the contractor’s dime, and the district reported it has used about one‑fifth of its contingency budget so far. The board did not vote on any contract amendments during the meeting.
Board members and administrators said they will continue regular work sessions on bonding and project status similar to the process used for the North campus project.
