Clayton seeks contractors for long-overdue sewer camera inspections; cost and access issues persist

Town of Clayton officials discussed plans to perform camera inspections on long sections of sanitary sewer lines from C9A through C8 and the challenge of finding a contractor able to complete large mainline inspections.
At the meeting a speaker identified as John said the town had found one supplier with a very high quote and had contacted Ashbury for referrals. "We got a hold of one company that I thought was outrageous on the cost," a speaker said. Officials reported that Double A (a contractor name mentioned) can do lateral inspections but not the long mainline runs because those require a robot or jet plow. One speaker said a previous camera inspection contract with Mason Private Locates cost "90 some thousand" dollars for much of the system.
Council members and a property owner discussed physical access issues: Coley Contracting previously attempted to camera the section and ran into a rock just past 39 and could not complete the run. That has left some reaches uninspected and the town searching for companies that can perform jet- or robot-based inspections.
No contractor was selected at the meeting. Staff said they would continue to seek vendors and pursue options for sections with difficult access. Council members noted previous repair costs have been higher than small single-repair estimates and that the town may need to budget for larger repairs if inspections reveal extensive issues.
