Plano warns residents about 'missing pet' scam targeting pet owners

The city advised residents that "Plano Animal Services will never ask for a credit card number or bank account," and that callers who ask for money to be sent via an app or who say an injured pet will be euthanized if payment is not received should be treated as suspicious. Residents are instructed to ask for an animal ID number and then call Plano Animal Services at (972) 769-4360 to verify the call.
The announcement was part of a weekly Plano City News update; no formal city action was taken during the recording.
