The Bastrop City Council on May 20 approved an ordinance initiating the voluntary annexation of 23.298 acres for Valverde Section 2 Phase 4, a portion of a larger Valverde development with an approved development agreement.
City staff explained the developer previously annexed other sections (roughly 399.878 acres in 2023) and that this phase will add roughly 94 units to Valverde’s planned total. The annexation follows a previously negotiated development agreement and a transfer of water-service rights (CCN) that allows the city to serve the development. City staff said annexing prior to construction allows the city to apply city standards consistently for public improvements and utility construction.
Why it matters: annexation brings the land into city limits, subjects future subdivision and infrastructure work to city standards and expands the city’s taxable property base as units are built and certificates of occupancy are issued.
Discussion vs. decision: the council opened a public hearing and, with no public speakers signed, closed the hearing and approved the annexation ordinance; the council’s motion carried unanimously.
