The City of Columbia City Council on June 10 approved amendments to the 2024–25 budget, fixed the 2025 property tax rate at $0.8251 per $100 of assessed value and adopted the fiscal-year 2025–26 appropriation ordinance after public hearings that drew no members of the public to speak.
The measures passed on roll-call votes during the council’s regular meeting. Vice Mayor McBroom presided over the hearings and votes. The council approved ordinance number 45-42 to amend the fiscal year 2024–25 budget; ordinance number 45-43 fixing the 2025 tax rate at 0.8251 per $100; and ordinance number 45-44, the appropriation ordinance covering July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
These actions follow the council’s public-hearing process; for each ordinance the council asked if anyone in the audience wished to speak and, when no one did, proceeded to close the hearing and vote. Council members voting on each ordinance were recorded on the roll call and the motions passed.
Taken together, the votes finalize city revenue and spending authority for the coming fiscal year and implement the tax rate the city will levy on taxable property for 2025. The council’s approvals now allow city departments to proceed under the adopted spending plan for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025.
Council members did not debate the measures during the meeting’s public hearings; the measures were advanced and approved by roll-call votes recorded in the meeting minutes.
