The Apple Valley City Council on Thursday accepted the schedule of events for the Apple Valley Freedom Days three-day celebration and authorized event signage placement.
Event organizer Pat walked the council through a multi-day schedule of activities, including a car show on June 27, a senior center float program on June 28, family fun night at Johnny Cake Ridge Park on July 3, a Fourth of July fun run and a parade on July 4 that will end at Apple Valley High School. Food trucks and a pre-fireworks party were scheduled at Johnny Cake Ridge Park with fireworks set to begin at 9:30 p.m. on July 4 and a rain date of July 5 at 9:30 p.m., Pat said.
Pat noted changes this year, including the carnival provider withdrawing and a smaller carnival-style inflatable soccer attraction, magician, petting zoo and a single truck artist for a limited truck-art display. Organizers said the Apple Valley American Legion will host a car show meal and that the Senior Center will participate in floats. Pat also acknowledged new local business support from Urban Air and longtime sponsor Dick's Service, and named the event grand marshal.
Council Member Bergman moved to accept the Apple Valley Freedom Days schedule of events and authorize the placement of signage; Council Member Bridal seconded. The council voted in favor.
Organizers and staff will proceed with event preparations and signage placement in accordance with city rules and the approved schedule.
