Library hires children's librarian, continues search for adult services specialist; summer programs planned

Staffing: The board was told that a new children’s librarian, Aaron (last name not specified), began part-time in late June and will work limited hours in July before moving to full-time in August. The director said the children’s team has regained full-time coverage after a brief vacancy. Programs and outreach: Trustees reviewed upcoming summer events, including the summer reading program starting the first Saturday after the meeting and city events such as “Touch a Truck” and a series of park events (June 27 at Veterans Park, July 25 at Goose Park and Aug. 22 at Baycrest Park). Staff noted plans to distribute books at outreach events and to promote accessible audio resources (audio-book boxes described as “Yoto” boxes) for patrons who prefer audio formats.
Board members and staff also discussed the foundation’s fundraising update: a spring appeal raised $7,200 and the foundation has raised approximately $26,000 for the fiscal year to date.
