DuBose described staff as "hurt and confused" and said teachers reported a celebratory response in the building following the announcement; she asked the board for accountability and clarity and called for consideration of equity in leadership decisions.
Kat Murray, a Whit Davis teacher, said the change was destabilizing for a school designated as a CSI (Comprehensive Support and Improvement) school, that the staff had been making measurable progress and that the sudden leadership change interrupted planning. She asked for more district communication about the circumstances and said the school might benefit from staff training on bias and workplace culture.
Earlier in the public‑comment period, Reverend Sandoval asked the board to rename the Cedar Shoals baseball field for the late coach James Lewis Holston, citing Holston’s long service to local schools as a teacher and coach. "He really did mold a lot of young people," Reverend Sandoval said, asking the board to find a way to make a unanimous decision in Holston’s memory.
Board members acknowledged the comments and said questions about personnel procedure, investigations or disciplinary matters should be handled through proper channels. Administrators said personnel matters that involve named candidates or sensitive materials are handled in executive session and that the public receives notices and legally redacted finalist materials when finalists are announced.
