The East Islip Union Free School District Board of Education approved multiple personnel items, accepted a $500 scholarship donation and approved appropriation changes during its regular meeting.
The board approved certified personnel actions (resignations, appointments and salary changes) and noncertified personnel actions, each “in accordance with applicable provisions of education law and civil service law as cited in the certified/noncertified personnel attachments,” the meeting record shows. Board members voiced assent by voice vote: “All in favor? Aye.” The meeting did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript excerpt.
On donations, the board accepted a $500 gift from the Suffolk Association of School Business Officials to fund a scholarship for a graduating student. “Thank you again, Mr. Harris,” a presenter said after the motion passed.
The board also approved a list of appropriation changes for the 2024–25 school year and approved consent agenda items as presented.
Under new business, administrators presented three informational items: a proposed college campus tour for high school students in the Northeast coordinated through a private vendor; a proposed language-immersion trip to Spain in spring 2026 sponsored by a world language teacher; and a revision to the Board of Education membership policy to incorporate a student member consistent with a statutory update. The transcript notes the policy revision “incorporates an update required by law to include a student member.” The policy change was presented; the transcript does not record a final vote on that policy revision during the meeting.
The board formally introduced Angel May as the incoming student member of the Board of Education; the transcript records the board saying the student member will begin on July 1, 2025. The board announced its next regular business and annual reorganization meeting is scheduled for 07/01/2025 at 7 p.m.
Motions recorded in the meeting included approvals for certified personnel, noncertified personnel, consent agenda items, the $500 donation acceptance, and appropriation changes; all were approved by voice vote as shown in the transcript.
